Key Topics Discussed

The online event, hosted by Allen Park (Head of Marketing) and Jamie Lou Borile (Client Success Manager), with a special guest, Sakura Kinjo, aix’s Japanese Senior Designer, delved into these topics:

1. Does the Japanese people really like Sakura?

Turns out, they do! Some people might think that Sakura or Cherry Blossoms are just too cliché, but actually survey shows that the Japanese people do anticipate this once in a year phenomenon of pink trees in the country. In the webinar, the hosts dig deep in the history of how sakura became popular and became a way to boost the economy even in the 1500s.

2. Sakura in Multi-media

Understanding more the relevance of Sakura into the Japanese society, the hosts delved into the common themes Sakura is depicted into the movies and animes. One of the most popular these is the “shin-seikatsu” or new living or “new style of living”. There is also the “shu-maku” or ending, “hatsu-koi” or first love, and “it-shun-no-koi” or temporary love. Here you can imagine how Sakura could feel really romantic, dramatic and melancholy.

3. Sakura in App Stores

How about in app stores? The hosts also observed and talked about how Sakura is being used in the Japanese creatives in the app stores, for non-games, games, screenshots, and in-app events.

4. Sakura in Ads / Products

When it comes to product adaptation and banners, this is where Japan goes crazy. The hosts talked about how diverse the products are that are being designed inspired by Sakura. And when it comes to design, it’s usually paired by soft fonts that evokes personal touch and it seems like there’s no such thing as “too much sakura”!

5. Next Seasonal Issues in Japan

And of course, in marketing, it’s always better to plan ahead! The hosts also got you covered with the next issues that are happening in Japan. Starting with Golden Week, mostly advertised as “GW,” it’s when a series of national holidays are connected that makes the holiday “golden” due to its length. The aix team shared the common themes in its creatives. Explanation about the holiday and its creative themes were also shared for Tanabata, Obon-yasumi, Summer Vacation, Halloween, and Christmas in Japan.

6. Q&A and Free Comprehensive Japanese Marketing Calendar!

In the end of the presentation, aix also accommodated questions from the participants around the world from various fields. aix also gave away a free Japanese marketing calendar to aid their marketing planning in the country.
